Mission Martin à Chasseur à Niau- Tuamotu
En septembre, nous sommes allé sur l'atoll de Niau dans les Tuamotus pour contribuer à la conservation du Martin chassueur endémique de cette île dont il ne reste qu'une quarantaine de couples. Les raisons de sa rareté ne sont pas encore connus et on travaille avec un chercheur américain spécialiste des Martins chasseurs du Pacifique. Pendant 15 jours on a cherché les nids (dans les cocotiers morts) et capturé des adultes pour leur poser des emetteurs. Passionnant!!
Surtout que Niau est un atoll très acueillant où la communauté humaine (120 adultes!) est très attachante! On a eu droit à l'accueil officiel avec colliers de coquillages, Ukulele, à l'église Sanito, une des nombreuses sectes de Polynésie.
